Ireland has introduced a new VFX surcharge within the existing Section 481 film tax credit. The measure increases the tax credit to 40% on VFX expenditure up to €10 million. Productions must spend at least €1 million on visual effects in Ireland to qualify. Expenditure exceeding €10 million falls back to the standard rate of 32%. The scheme came into effect on July 10. Screen Ireland CEO Désirée Finnegan welcomed the measure. She announced that Screen Ireland will continue to invest in talent development through the National Talent Academy for VFX. Further guidelines will be published shortly by the relevant authorities.
