Yesterday, the CNC presented a large-scale study to the cultural committee of the National Assembly, in which CNC President Gaëtan Bruel demonstrated that the French film industry is indeed profitable. The study analyzed 1,823 French feature films over their entire exponential cycle of more than ten years, during which these films collectively generated 7.9 billion euros in gross revenue via cinemas, streamers, exports, and television. On average, a French production yields 158,000 euros net, while 37% of all films ultimately turn a profit. The study thereby refutes the persistent claim that only 10% of French films are profitable, a claim based solely on direct box office results and politically exploited by the far right.
