internship in Theatre Design

Hello everyone! My name is Michael van der Laan and I am currently in the final year of the Theatre Design program at Albeda College / MBO Theatre School Rotterdam. As part of my final year of study, I am looking for a fun and creative internship from November 22, 2026, to May 10, 2027, where I can further develop my skills and gain professional experience within the theater, entertainment, or creative production world. My main interests lie in costume design and realization, props, set design, and set construction. I particularly enjoy working on projects where I can combine various disciplines and transform an initial idea or sketch into something that can actually be used on stage. I have experience working with textiles, leather, EVA foam, thermoplastic materials, and various other materials. Additionally, I have experience with sewing, needlework, embroidery, painting, model making, and technical drawing. I enjoy experimenting with different materials and like coming up with creative solutions when making costumes, props, and set elements. During my studies, I worked on various individual and group projects. I also held the responsibility of Head of Costumes for a theatre production. In this role, I was involved not only in designing the costumes but also in planning, expenses, inventory, and the practical realization of the costumes. Outside of school, I also continue to develop my creativity through costume making, cosplay, LARP, illustration, and digital design. Creating characters, costumes, and fantasy worlds has been an important part of my creative development for many years. For my internship, I would like to work at a theater, production company, costume department, studio, festival, film or television production, or another creative organization. I hope to work on real productions there, learn from experienced professionals, and further develop my craftsmanship. Young woman, approximately 22–28 Lena appears to have everything. She is confident, charismatic, effortlessly captivating, and immersed in an exciting nightlife. She knows how to enjoy herself and seems completely comfortable in her own world. But when that world begins to be questioned, the confidence starts to fracture. Beneath the surface, Lena doesn't really know who she is or why she exists. This is a non-verbal role. Lena's emotions and inner world are communicated entirely through expression and movement, not by speaking. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are searching for someone with: - A natural and captivating on-screen presence. - Confidence expressing emotion without dialogue. - Openness to artistic collaboration during rehearsals and on set. - Dance or movement experience is very welcome, but not required. -A genuine love for cinema :) APPEARANCE Lena is written as someone whose outward beauty and confidence contrast with the emotional emptiness she experiences internally. We are looking for someone who can convincingly embody that contrast. This is a narrative requirement, not a beauty contest. INTIMACY & WARDROBE The film contains sensual, non-explicit imagery that supports Lena's character and the story. This may include revealing clothing appropriate to the character, resulting visible shoulders, back, legs or midriff. There will be no nudity, sexual activity or anything like it.
